St Clare of Assisi Men’s Club Minutes, September 12, 2011
58 Members, 4 officers, and eventually 3 priests in attendance
Called to order – 7:45pm
Opening prayer was led by Bill Cannon – remained standing for the Pledge of Allegiance
Minutes from the August 2011 meeting were read – motion to accept 1st Don Benjamin 2ndBill Cannon –carried.
Treasure’s report was read – we still have some money – motion to accept – 1stBill Cannon 2ndand carried.
OLD BUSINESS
Main topic – OKTOBERFEST
Parkway informed members that we are legal and that credit cards will be accepted.
John Steinbrecher spoke on continuing to bring in sponsors. Sponsors will have an opportunity to purchase one of six parking spaces visible to the Oktoberfest patrons. These go for $300 a space. Sponsors will be seen on a continuous loop on the 2ndplace 50/50 prize - TV.
Next Oktoberfest meeting – Thursday September 15th.
Volunteers in all areas will have opportunity to purchase $5.00 wristbands – volunteer sign up sheets were sent around.
Variety of beer was discussed and Jack Mac discussed variety of food and he assured the members that the food would be better than last year.
Pat Meara spoke about the PTO sponsoring a picture booth and talked about the games booths inside the gym.
Curt Meyer spoke of non beer beverages. He thanked Mr Hacker for the cheese/crackers, Tim Dolan for the cases of wine, Jim Bannes for the beer, and Rich Frye for the Pepsi help (sorry if not perfect).
Don Seiler informed us that there will be a table for limited auction items. Need nice stuff for this.
Parkway mentioned need for 50/50 volunteers after masses the weekend of Sept 25thand Oct 2nd. Sign up sheet went around.
Pres Henty reiterated the need for volunteers and had a show of hands of those that would be able to help out on certain days. There was a great response – Thank You.
Sign up sheet went around for “policing of grounds” and trash removal regularly during the event.
Bill Deemer volunteered to get the doughnuts for Friday set-up, and Don Seiler asked for high schoolers that are in need of community service time.
Website is live and pretty much ready to go. Great Club info can be found there. Meeting info, event info, etc.
Jack Mac would like more time to bring winter fundraiser event info to the club. Hopefully be able to vote on it at the October meeting.
Steve Cain stated that the Men’s fall golf outing will be Sept 24 and that 19 members has signed up so far.
NEW BUSINESS
Card for Father Driscoll was sent around – gift cards would be included when sent to Father.
VP Keith Laurie will be leaving us around October 15th. He thanked the group for all the friendships and fun that he has had.
Pat Meara was nominated and the group accepted him to the position with no other nominations.
Bill Cannon spoke about CHRP to be held the weekend of Oct 15th.
Jack Mac spoke of his new catering company – please support taste of St Louis Sept 23-25th– please go support him personally.
Our new youth group minister Brian Straub spoke to the group excited about his position and looks forward to interactions with the Mens Club.
We will once again do care packages for the Troops.
Tim Newberry invited us to congratulate THREE members starting the process of Permanent Diaconate – Jim Broom, George Smith, and Lee Trani.
New Member Rod Silvagni stood and said Hi.
Next meeting will be October 3rd2011 – Fried Chicken to be served.
Poker Nite will be Sept 30th - 7:00pm in the St Clare room.
50/50 of $165 was won by Lee Trani – Rico Red won by Tim Newberry – Swill handed to Tim Hacker.
Special prayer intentions were heard and then Lee led us in closing prayer.
